Favourite Finds...

Yesterday I was reading an article in Homebuilding & Renovating mag about renovators who had found a selection of treasures and things of interest as they were working on their properties. The most interesting things were; a life sized mural of King Henry VIII from around 1530 being uncovered by a plasterer, a mummified cat in the roof of 18th century home, an entire Victorian kitchen with everything in place including jelly moulds, kettles and cookbooks hidden in the basement of a Victorian property, a drawing by Rembrandt in an old wardrobe valued at GBP80,000, and - my fave - a 'priest hole' in a 17th century house (used to conceal Catholic priests in the reign of James I) complete with a priest still in it!!
Well, as I've mentioned before, Shingle Cottage isn't blessed with a variety of features, so when we do find something we get pretty excited.
Here are some of the things we have discovered so far (in addition to the nails, newspaper cuttings etc. mentioned in previous pages) and I will update this page if and when we discover anything else...

One my favourite things about this house when we saw it for the first time were these gorgeous original iron gutters with decorative lion heads. Looking forward to restoring these!

After sweeping up the other day, this interesting impression was found on one of the pamment tiles in the living room...

Not sure if these are actual prints or not?

Our doors and latches that will be resurrected...
